Privacy Policy
WikiTrip ("the App") is operated by Björn Schefzyk ("the Maker"), based in Germany. This page explains how data is handled when you use the App.
Analytics & Crash Reporting
The App uses Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Firebase Performance Monitoring (provided by Google) to understand how the App is used, detect crashes, and monitor performance. These services may collect:
- Anonymous usage events (e.g. screens viewed, playback started)
- Crash logs and stack traces
- App performance metrics (e.g. startup time, network latency)
- Device information (model, OS version, language)
- A randomly generated instance identifier
No personally identifiable information (name, email, precise location) is sent to Firebase. Data collected by Firebase is processed by Google under their Firebase Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in improving the App (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
This website (wikitrip-audioguide.com) also uses Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4) to measure aggregate page views and traffic sources. Visits are tracked with IP anonymization enabled. No personal data is collected.
Location Data
The App uses your device's location solely to find nearby Wikipedia articles. Your location is sent directly to the Wikipedia API to perform geographic searches. It is not stored on our servers, sent to Firebase, or shared with any other party.
Text-to-Speech
Article text is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to the OpenAI API for text-to-speech conversion. No text or audio is stored on our servers after the response is delivered to your device.
Article History
A list of articles you have listened to is stored locally on your device only. It is not transmitted to any server.
Subscriptions
WikiTrip offers an optional Premium subscription for access to high-quality AI voices. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. RevenueCat receives:
- An anonymous user identifier
- Subscription status and purchase history from Apple
- Device and app information
RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or other personally identifiable information from us. For more details, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Third-Party Services
The App communicates with the following third-party services:
- Wikipedia API — to fetch article content (Terms)
- OpenAI API — to generate speech audio (Privacy Policy)
- RevenueCat — subscription management (Privacy Policy)
- Firebase Analytics — anonymous usage analytics (Privacy Info)
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting (Privacy Info)
- Firebase Performance — performance monitoring (Privacy Info)
Data Retention
Analytics and crash data retained by Firebase follows Google's standard retention policies. You can learn more in the Firebase Privacy documentation. We do not maintain our own database of user data.
Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, or delete your personal data, as well as the right to restrict or object to its processing. Since the App does not collect data that can identify you personally, most of these rights are fulfilled by design. If you have questions about your data, please contact us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any information from children. It is rated 4+ on the App Store.
Changes
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
Governing Law
